A few weeks ago I dropped in to see my doctor to have my blood pressure checked. A few days earlier I had been in Shopper’s with my wife and while I was waiting I decided to humour myself by sitting in the chair and checking my blood pressure. When the reading came out, there was nothing humorous at all. It was way higher than it should be. A couple of days later I went back and checked again. It was even higher! I decided I’d better get this thing checked right away.
Fortunately, I was able to get in to see my doctor the next day. When he checked my blood pressure, it was even higher than the day before. It was through the roof. He immediately sat down and wrote me a prescription for some pills to bring it down. He also had some advice. He told me to cut my coffee intake down to two cups and day and monitor the amount of salt in my diet. That meant no 6-7 cups of coffee per day and no daily bag of cheezies, and that was just the start.
That’s the way it’s been for the last three weeks. Salad, chicken, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, lots of lettuce, quinoa, avocados and the like. All that healthy stuff that I shunned, is now a regular part of my diet. And it’s working.
I bought myself a blood pressure machine and have monitored myself daily. In less than 3 weeks my blood pressure is exactly where it should be.
I sure am glad that I decided to sit in that chair a few weeks ago.
