The City of Regina has seen a spike in building permits being issued in the last year.
54 permits were issued in May, up from 42 in May of 2017.
Mayor Michael Fougere said it’s a sign of growth.
“We have people coming here from all over the world, this is a good sign for us,” Fougere said. “We have people that want to invest here, that are investing here, and we see a strong, underlying economy here, I think our growth last year was 2.5% roughly, around that level.”
Fougere said along with the $24 Million senior living facility in Westerra, there’s some big money projects underway.
“PCL construction has an indoor rink they’re looking at that’s $2 Million, and then a $1.3 Million hotel alteration that took place in May, (which is) the latest reporting.”
Building permits are needed before any new construction, demolition, additions or renovations are done to any building in Regina.
