Just in case you forgot to look at your calendar this morning it is, in fact, June 7th already. It’s going to be a very warm June 7th today with a forecast high of 27 which makes for perfect ice cream weather. Heck, even it was -27 we’d probably still want ice cream because we’re just that tough and hardy in Saskatchewan! Today just happens to be national chocolate ice cream day. How delicious is that!
At one time, chocolate ice cream was considered a novelty. It was something different from the usual vanilla. Nowadays there are all kinds of flavours from cherry cheesecake, mint chocolate, gummy bear, rocky road, and many others. There’s even pizza ice cream now, peas, and ketchup flavours! They all sound terrible. Just give me plain old vanilla or, especially today, chocolate ice cream. That’s all I desire. Vanilla is far more versatile of all the ice creams. You can add cherry sauce, chocolate, rum and butter, or even caramel sauce to vanilla and turn it into something awesome! You certainly couldn’t do that with ketchup flavoured ice cream. Well, you could I guess, but it wouldn’t taste pleasant.
Something tells me the Milky Way and all the other ice cream shops will busy today thanks to +27 and national chocolate ice cream day. I’ve learned people can become very passionate about their favourite cold treats. Some are very dedicated to a certain flavour and will not stray from it. Others are a little more open to trying other kinds. How about you? Do you have a favourite ice cream?
