The Rugby World Cup sevens goes in San Francisco next month and one of the teams competing is doing their training in Regina.
The coach of the team is Robin McDowell. The Regina man has had the job for about a year and a half and thought this was a perfect place to get ready.
“We have a great rugby support system and community in Saskatchewan.” McDowell said. “Ultimately, it helps me because I am here and have a lot connections. At the end of the day, a lot of the girls have never left Mexico so this gets them out of their comfort zone.
One of the team members is Dany Rosales. She is loving her time in the Queen City.
“The people here are welcoming and the training sessions have been worth it. I have been having a blast”. Rosales said. “The three or so weeks we have been here have been great.”
This is the first time Mexico has qualified for the event and while McDowell admits they are not quite ready for the tournament yet, he says by the time they leave Regina they will be.
