Many jobs can cause workers to feel a significant emotional toll.
One of those jobs includes policing, especially in the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
Recently Cpl. Jared Clark was in the Philippines with expert testimony on a case of child pornography, where a Saskatoon man was arrested and found guilty of paying women to abuse children online while he watched.
While it’s not the easiest job, Clark says the aim is to rescue children, which often means seeing the same horrifying things they see.
That is, according to him, what keeps officers solvent in their goal and job.
“If this kind of work didn’t take a toll, you might want to look in the mirror,” he said. “You’re dealing with some pretty dark stuff.”
