Yesterday afternoon I had all of the windows and the doors open, enjoying the breeze on a beautiful afternoon. As I was standing in the kitchen I heard my neighbour yell out my name. I went outside to see what she wanted and noticed she had a dog at her side, which was a little odd, considering they don’t have a dog.
Apparently, this dog had wandered on to her property. It was a beautiful dog, which looked to be a husky mixed with something else, and had the most beautiful blue eyes.
The problem was, they don’t have a closed off yard, so she was wondering if I could hold the dog in our yard while she waited for the humane society to come and collect the dog. I certainly didn’t want this little critter wandering the neighbourhood with a possibility of getting hit by a car, so we got the dog into my yard and waited.
I called my wife and explained what was going on. She actually takes Max for a walk every day when she gets home from work and kind of knows what’s going on animal-wise around our neighbourhood. That call paid off. She told me the exact house she thought the dog belonged at, so I took a drive about a block and a half from where we live and went to the house she told me about. Sure enough, that was the owner!
The lady had her mitts full with kids, laundry, dishes, and all of the other things that keep a young mom busy around the house. She told me she’d be right over. I waited, and waited, and waited. About 20 minutes later I decided to put a leash on the dog and take it over myself, which I did.
No one was happier about that than Max. I had him locked up inside all the while this was going on. He was going crazy for the better part of 45 minutes. He wanted to know who in the world was stealing his backyard from him. He knew there was another dog back there, but I certainly wasn’t letting him outside to investigate.
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time this little guy had been loose, so I’ve got a feeling that won’t be the last time I see him.
At least I’ll know where to go if he ever drops by unexpectedly again.
