Fresh off of his trip to Washington, Premier Scott Moe says Saskatchewan continues to have a large presence in United States trade.
With recent turbulence in NAFTA negotiations, Premier Moe says that only increased the importance of his recent conference.
Moe said conversations that involve Saskatchewan trade to the States need to continue.
“Ensure that we are able to tell the Saskatchewan story of how our participation in that agreement benefits people, communities, jobs and industries on both sides of the border and just how integrated our economies are through operating the last two-and-a-half decades under the free trade agreement.”
Moe says he believes there is a high level of difficulty in NAFTA talks.
“They require a great deal of effort and a great deal being very cordial,” Moe said. “To just go back 25 years though, they were just as sensitive at the inception of this agreement and I think that we should remember that these agreements, as valuable as they are take a lot of efforts on all sides.”
Moe was able to lineup meetings with a large number of high-level officials in Washington, including four of U.S. President Donald Trump`s cabinet.
