I have two alarms to make sure I don’t sleep in and some days I need both of them. The first alarm goes off at about 2:20. After turning that one off I usually lay in bed for another 10 or 15 minutes. I have another alarm that’s set to go off at 3, just in case I fall back asleep after turning the first one off. It’s not as confusing as I’m probably making it sound.
When I woke up at 2:20, the first thought that came to mind was “Please tell me it’s the weekend.” After I got my bearings straight and realized it was Monday, I silently cursed and reminded myself that I’ve really got to win a lottery.
This really is a weird shift to work. In bed by 7:30 and up by 2:30. The older I get, the more I look forward to sleeping in on the weekends. Of course, for me, sleeping until 5 or 5:30 on the weekend is a pretty good sleep-in! Usually I’m awake by 4 and spend the next hour or so tossing and turning before finally giving in and getting up.
It’s at those times I really realize what a wonderful friend I have in a cup of coffee.
