We will find out Tuesday night if Davin School will be getting a new name as the Regina Public School Board will vote on the matter.
The school was named after Nicolas Flood Davin. He authored a report back in 1879 which apparently created a foundation for establishing residential schools according to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
An online survey was created by the board for people to have their say on the matter, but the results of that survey have not been made public.
- Regina Public Schools asking for your input on future of Davin School’s name
- Decision to re-name Davin School now in hands of Regina Public School Board
Two recommendations have been made and will be voted on. One is to retain the name with the second being to rename the school “The Crescents School”
Regardless of which way the board goes, the Davin School name will not be removed from the building’s masonry.
