The Stanley Cup will be coming to Humboldt this August for a visit with several NHL players in attendance.
The league and the players association jointly announced the event in Vegas where the league will hand out its yearly awards
The event will be held August 24 and will occur in conjunction with Washington Capitals forward Chandler Stephenson bringing the Cup to the community as he promised to do in the moments after the team’s victory. An on-ice skills competition will be held that day featuring players to be announced. One player who will be there is Saskatoon’s Brayden Schenn–a forward with the St, Louis Blues.
The announcement was made with ten of the survivors from the April 6 bus crash that killed 16 and injured 13 others in Vegas.
The ten will be recognized Wednesday night at the NHL awards ceremony. Coach Darcy Haugan, who died in the accident, is up for the inaugural Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award, which recognizes someone who has improved his or her community through hockey.
