Saskatchewan’s Justice Minister Don Morgan said the with the Canada Day long weekend coming up, that the celebrations and the beer gardens that will be in Wascana Park are not the reasons for why the government wants the removal of the camp that’s set up outside of the Legislative Building.
Morgan said it’s for the overall safety for the residents who use the park.
On Thursday, a tipi was set up in Wascana.
This comes less than a week after Regina Police and government officials ordered the removal of the Justice for Our Stolen Children camp. Minister Morgan adds that there are other ways people can protest and express their speech such as by walking down the sidewalk with signs rather than turning the front lawn of the Legislative Building into a camp site.
Protesters were given eviction notice on June 2nd and given until the 5th of the month to vacate the park.
Morgan adds the original eviction notice handed out at the beginning of the month is still in effect. (CJWW)
