It has been almost a year since I returned home to Saskatchewan and people ask me all the time; how do you think the province has changed since you left?”
It has changed in many ways but the biggest thing I’ve noticed is the intense pride people have in their communities and in their province as a whole. Folks now believe we’re more than just that rectangular chunk of land between Manitoba and Alberta, that we’re a major contributor to the country and the world. We’re more than happy to shout out our pride from the tallest points of Cypress Hills and the Moose Mountains.
So, when someone like Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show mentions Regina or even Saskatchewan our ears perk up and we get excited. The other night he played a clip of the “Experience Regina” song on a bit. Since that time, Mayor Michael Fougere and many Reginans have taken to social media to try and lure him to the capital city to experience it for himself. It got me thinking, too. What would a good Regina experience entail? Obviously a stop at the RCMP Heritage Museum and Depot are required, maybe a Roughriders game depending on when he’d get here, a world famous Regina Pizza, and others have suggested a stop at the Milky Way ice cream parlour. Of course we can’t forget about the beauty of Wascana Park/Leg building either.
LISTEN: Interview with Melissa Fiacco
No visit by Jimmy Fallon would be complete until a visit to the MIGHTY 620 CKRM. Just sayin’! Melissa Fiacco joined me at 11:15 this morning on air to talk about ideas and suggestions already in place.
This is your homework for today. What should Jimmy Fallon of the Tonight Show see if he, and their team, decided to come to Regina and southern Saskatchewan? Then, get on social media and lets bring him here! Remember that provincial pride and enthusiasm I mentioned earlier? This will be a great opportunity to show it off!
