SGI targeted impaired driving during the traffic safety focus in May, and police in Saskatchewan nabbed 404 drivers, and laid 350 criminal charges.
However SGI’s Tyler McMurchy said there is some encouraging news in those figures.
“We suspect that impaired driving activity is actually going down,” McMurchy said. “So if activity is down but charges still remain high, that’s how we know charges are a function of enforcement and police are very focused on catching the impaired drivers who are still making that poor decision,” he added.
Police also issued 6,000 speeding or aggressive driving tickets last month, 540 for distracted driving, and 445 for seatbelt and child restraint infractions.
