Regina city council has voted in favour of keeping its food truck vendor rate where it is for 2018.
The $1680 rate increased from $1400 last year, prompting several food trucks to leave City Square Plaza during the week.
Mayor Michael Fougere said with more vendors, the effect of the rate increase wasn’t too drastic.
“I think we found that now there is a greater uptake right now of food vendors, and that therefore the impact of the increase wasn’t quite as self evident as it appears to be, and I don’t think everyone shared that view, but the majority of council felt they should leave it the way it is, and let’s look at it again in 2019.”
Fougere feels this is the best option.
“That’s the view of council, council had a couple different ways they could go about this and they decided to leave it as is, but look at it again in the fall.”
Currently there are six permits for food trucks to be on the plaza, down from as many as 11 last year.
