Canada`s best women’s curlers could soon be returning to the Friendly City.
The city of Moose Jaw has applied to host the 2020 Scotties tournament of hearts, after previously hosting the event in 2015.
City Manager Jim Puffault said he supports the idea of bringing the Scotties back.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community, for the curling club, for the facility,” Puffault said. “It just brings huge economic impact to the community, and it promotes the idea that Moose Jaw is a tremendous place with great facilities and it’s a great promotion.”
Puffault said the quick turnaround should serve as a positive rather than a negative.
“I think is certainly helps because I know that Curling Canada is looking for a successful event, and so that requires a community that knows what they’re doing, has put these on before, can bring the volunteers forward, and have a tremendous facility.”
Despite multiple bids across the country for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, this appears to be the first bid for that year`s Scotties.
The 2019 event will be played in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
