Don’t expect gas prices to hike drastically here in Saskatchewan.
That message is directly from the Senior Petroleum Analyst at Gasbuddy.com, Dan McTeague.
“Here in Saskatchewan, Regina, nothing,” he said. “Everything is going to remain pretty much the same until Sunday. $1.21.9/litre looks like the normal here in Regina, pretty much the same in Saskatoon, Prince Albert right across the province.”
McTeague noted it’s unusual for there not to be a price hike. He also noted it’s unusual that gas stations, this weekend, will be losing money.
“They’re selling gasoline for what they’re buying it for,” he said. “Worse, you can’t run a gasoline station with out paying for your electricity, paying for your staff and honouring credit cards. That could come to four or five cents a litre.
“They, literally, at $1.21 a litre, are taking a beating.”
McTeague said there’s the potential for a price hike heading into the back half of the long weekend, but it’s not a big one.
“I’m looking to Sunday for a potential increase, maybe a 10% , 20% chance. But beyond that, I think prices are going to remain
