A popular hamburger restaurant that was a fixture in Regina is no more.
Burger Baron closed their location on Quance Street bringing an end to a business that had been in existence in Regina for 58 years.
Company President James McDonnell said there’s no real one reason that led to the decision, but rather, several of them, the most notable one being rising costs.
“Cost structures have changed tremendously,” he said. “From food costs, labour costs, the addition of PST, the effectiveness as well, it’s a congruence of factors.”
McDonnell acknowledged it wasn’t an easy decision for them to close the restaurant, especially as it had been a family business.
But despite the closure of the restaurant, McDonnell didn’t close the door on a potential return someday.
“I will never say that we will never be back in Regina,” he said. “At this stage, we’re just closing this location.”
