Two things popped into my head when I woke up this morning. First, happy Independence Day to all of our United States listeners and friends! Their country turns the big 242 today and citizens will no doubt be putting on incredible firework shows tonight across America.
Secondly, I realized I’ve been at CKRM for a full year! 365 days really zooms by when you’re having fun and doing what you like. There have been so many highlights to talk about over the past year, but a few that stand out include seeing Country Thunder Saskatchewan in Craven for the first time and meeting Keith Urban and Blake Shelton. Our Program Director and I got to travel to the 2017 Canadian Country Music Awards in Saskatoon, which was an incredible weekend of networking, visiting, and interviewing the movers and shakers of the country music industry. Most recently we said goodbye to that Program Director and CKRM leader as he pursues another exciting path in life. While we did that, we also welcomed another to the fold.
Getting out to meet farm families in our country cookouts has been one of the most fun promotions I ever participated in, plus the food from Peg’s Kitchen is the simply the best! Our Listener Appreciation party, The Regina Pats barbecue, P.A. announcer at the Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour Dinner, and so much more have made the past year a lot of fun. I thought for sure by now Jamie Lewis would have driven me to a therapist! Considering he hasn’t starts to make me question my own sanity! I’m just teasing of course.
The ability to sit down with you everyday, drink coffee, and visit is the best part of the job because we talk about everything! What’s going on around you, showcasing all those talented musicians we have here in Sask and around Canada, talk local news, the weird, the wacky, and everything in between. I hope you’ve enjoyed the show the past year as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. I hope you don’t mind me sticking around for a while yet because it’s been a wild, fun ride at 620 CKRM.
