The University of Regina and the U.R Pride Centre have made student housing available for LGBTQ students.
The Colourful Campus House, which is two six bedroom apartments, was put forward by both organizations, to give a safe place for LGBTQ students to live.
Jacq Brasseur with the U-R Pride Centre said current LGBTQ students, who have been housed at the campus, have felt uncomfortable.
“We’ve heard from students who’ve shared negative experiences in being placed in the wrong residence, with regards to their gender identity,” she said. “Or places people that maybe they don’t necessarily feel comfortable with.”
Brasseur noted in order to give LGBTQ students at the post secondary instiution a a safe space, a lot of planning was needed.
“UR Pride has been working really closely with the University of Regina administration to further our Positive Space Network program, which is an education opportunity for people to learn about how to support LGBTQ people.”
