Well, another Country Thunder Saskatchewan has come and gone. Things always seem to run a lot smoother when Mother Nature cooperates, and aside from a couple of windy days, she did. At least it was dry.
Yesterday was a long, fun day. The last day always is. Three different radio stations have their own day at Craven to host the main stage. The last day is always ours, and it’s a busy one.
That’s our day to MC all the activities on the main stage and grab interviews from all of the performers. Many times the interviews are backstage, but sometimes we interview the stars in the luxury of their tour buses. There seemed to be a lot of that going on yesterday.
Cody and Gloria interviewed Midland on their bus. Colin ended up on Aaron Tippin’s and Collin Raye’s bus. Then Colin and I, along with our friend Gerry Evans, ended up back on Aaron’s bus. That last bus visit wasn’t for an interview though, Aaron just invited us to join him on his bus to sample his own brand of wine called “Kiss This.” We sat with Aaron for about 40 minutes as he told us some great stories, including how he survived being struck by lightning, twice! Then he talked about growing up with a very adventurous dad, before turning the conversation to his career and how he thought country music has changed since he was riding high on the charts. One of the nicest people you could ever want to meet! He sent me home with half a bottle of wine! I had visions of getting pulled over by the cops and having to explain to them why I had an open container of alcohol in my vehicle! I wasn’t throwing that bottle away! It was a gift from Aaron Tippin, for goodness sakes!
The day finally wrapped up when Evans and I went on stage at 9:30 to introduce Luke Bryan. Nothing like being on stage in front of 20,000 people on a beautiful summer night!
As wonderful as the weekend was, it was sure nice to get back into our studio again this morning.
It’s like being on vacation. It’s always a lot of fun, but it’s always great coming home!
