The Canadian Canola Growers Association has donated $100,000 to STARS Air Ambulance.
The cheque was presented during the field of STARS fundraiser, which took place Tuesday night at AG in Motion.
Canola Growers Vice President Bernie McClean said he has a personal connection to the work STARS does.
“A friend that I went to school with, his daughter actually when STARS was very new to Saskatchewan, I guess was assisted by STARS about four-five years ago now, so again (STARS is) vital to our communities, we live in great distances, and emergency medical services are not close.”
STARS communications leader Chad Saxon said there’s a strong connection between STARS and farmers in the prairies.
“Often times STARS is there to provide emergency rapid transit and critical care to farmers who might have a mishap on the farm, and I think that the Canadian Canola Growers Association recognizes that link.”
Saxon later added the funds will be put towards training for medical crew members as well as purchasing medical resources.
Canadian country music artist Brett Kissel performed as part of the fundraiser.
