Regina police say from July 1-17, they have had 85 auto thefts reported to them. Of those 85, 23 were Hondas and Acuras which police say looking at statistics over the last three years that those two makes of cars between 1990-2005 are consistently within the top five and are susceptible to theft.
While all vehicle owners should take the necessary precautions to prevent auto theft, police are telling people who own Hondas and Acuras in that time frame to be especially vigilant with whatever is needed to secure their vehicle and prevent it from being a statistic.
The Regina Police Service is asking the public to adopt the following auto-theft prevention strategies for drivers of all vehicles:
· Use a steering-wheel immobilization device, such as The Club, which can combat the use of an altered key used to start the ignition.
· Always lock your vehicle doors.
· Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.
· Remove valuables from your vehicle, including spare keys or key-fobs, and garage door openers.
