TORONTO (Reuters) – Toronto police on Monday named the suspect in a shooting attack in the city on Sunday as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, who family members said had been mentally ill all his life.
Two people died and a further 13 were wounded in the attack.
In a statement, the family said Hussain “had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life”.
Hussain, armed with a handgun, opened fire at 10 p.m. on Sunday on a stretch of Danforth Avenue filled with restaurants and family-friendly attractions in the city’s Greektown neighborhood.
The two who died were an 18 year old girl and a 10 year old girl. The 18 year old has been identified as Reese Fallon, a recent high school graduate who planned to study nursing.
