What a wonderful night last night for the Queen City Ex parade! I haven’t done the parade for a few years, so I’m not sure about the average turnout, but there sure seemed to be a lot of people lined up along the route.
Cody Glydon and I were driving the 620 CKRM Country Cruiser followed by Randi and Savannah from our 620 CKRM Street Team, who were walking behind the truck handing out candy. I haven’t driven that slowly since trying to get through all of the road construction on the #1 highway.
The Dino Bouncers float that was right in front of us on the route was also handing out candy. Things sure have changed in that department.
When I was a kid, candy would just get tossed out along the road during the parade and it was every kid for themselves. Kids would be darting in and out of all the traffic trying to grab some goodies. It was better than Halloween. Lots of candy and we didn’t have to go door-to-door for twenty blocks. It was certainly a little more dangerous back then.
After the parade a lot of people made their way to Wascana Park for the fireworks. Not this cowboy. It was a little past my bedtime at that point. I didn’t see the fireworks, but I sure could hear them.
Today the gates swing open for the midway.
There’s nothing like a parade and the fair to make a 55 year-old feel like a kid again!
