While many people attend the Queen City Ex for fun, it brings in several hundred people to properly operate the rides.
Ride operators, or more commonly called “carneys” are needed to keep the ride moving, with most rides needing at least two people.
Zizzanne Edwards is in her second season with the north american midway, and says it’s an enjoyable job to have.
“It has its ups and downs, and you have your hectic days, but seeing the smiles on the kids faces makes it worth it.”
Edwards said she likes her job.
“It is just like a summer job, especially for the South Africans, it’s a much better position for us and it keeps us busy instead of just staying at home in the summer.”
While the Queen City ex wraps up on Sunday, the next stop for the rides and their operators is the Saskatoon Ex, before heading to Toronto.
