The Canadian Safe Boating Council wants you to be safe this long weekend.
The August long weekend is one of the busiest times at the lake.
CEO of the Livesaving Society in Saskatchewan Shelby Rushton said to stay sober if you’re operating a boat.
“Our wind gets up so fast we can have waves, and our boat is already rocking, so if we also include drugs or alcohol in that it increases how the operator of the boat is going to maneuver their vessel.”
Rushton said 40% of boating related deaths are from being impaired.
“More so, it’s the man powered boats, like kayaks and canoes, that we see fatalities happening in due to alcohol.”
Rushton adds should you be caught drinking and boating you can it will affect the safety rating on your SGI license.
