The recent heat we’ve been getting is starting to put some pressure on SaskPower, as people fire up fans and air conditioners to keep cool.
The power company’s Johnathan Trembley said, not surprisingly, they’re seeing consumption rise as a result.
“In fact, we almost broke a record (Wednesday), we came very close to our summer peak, and it’s only getting warmer,” Trembley said. “Environment Canada is giving us 35, maybe 38°C, so we’re seeing a lot of power consumption.”
Trembley said the heat is also causing concern about the power grid itself.
“It stresses some parts of it, so it’s possible we’ll see an outage here of there, but we’re certainly hard at work to keep the power on.”
On Wednesday, SaskPower was within six megawatts, or about 6,000 homes, away from setting a new summer consumption record.
