A Calgary man has pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in November 2016 that resulted in a Regina cab driver suffering serious injuries.
Leroy Redwood made the plea in a Regina courtroom.
He and two others had been drinking when they got into the taxi to go to a bar. At some point during that ride, he started attacking his friends. The drier, Iqbal Sharma, got out to help but was then savagely attacked by Redwood as he was stabbed several times in the neck and head. Sharma was rushed to hospital and spent several months recovering needing three brain surgeries. The attack has left him with mobility issues.
With credit for time already served, Redwood will remain behind bars for another four and a half years.
