The City of Regina is investing in watering their flowers with a new watering trike.
The new trike is solar powered to help the operator move it, and holds 150 litres of water that should water about 15 to 20 flower pots.
City spokesperson Russell Eirich said this is a long-term solution to a problem the city crews have run into often.
“One of the things that we found difficulties (we’ve had) though is with our larger equipment, it’s very difficult to get some of our larger equipment in here, and from a safety and a pedestrian point of view, it’s something we’ve really struggled with over the years.”
Eirich said this is a welcome change for city crews.
“I think this is something they’ve been really looking forward to, and again the staff have been experiencing trying to move the larger, worminator-style trucks around through here, and so because they’ve really been struggling with it, I think they actually have been pushing me towards this idea.”
Mosquito numbers are also down. According to Eirich, the city caught 19 mosquitoes per trap last week, well below the historical average of 139.
