What a momentous day on Number 1’s at 1 today as we celebrate the birthdays of Billy Joe Shaver and Emily Robison from the Dixie Chicks. August 16th, 1977 also marks the day we lost “the King,” Elvis Presley. His girlfriend at the time found him dead in the bathroom. The cause of death was blamed on heart failure.

Looking back 21 years ago today, Lonestar reached the top the country singles chart. The song debuted at #51 on the chart and after 20 weeks worked it’s way up to the top spot. This was the group’s second number 1 hit with “Come Crying To Me.”
This week in 1996 on the RPM Country Tracks Chart here in Canada, Chris Cummings was at number 1 with “Sure Enough.”
August 16th, 1985 The Dukes of Hazard final prime time appearance on CBS aired. The show, starring John Schneider and Tom Wopat, ran for 7 season with 147 episodes. Exactly 1 year later, John Schneider landed a number 1 song the country chart for 1 week with “You’re the last thing I needed Tonight.”
Merle haggard captured that coveted top spot on the country chart on this day in 1969 with “Workin’ Man Blues.”
