The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities is asking Ottawa to extend the use of strychnine poison on farms.
Health Canada has launched a 90 day consultation period on the use of strychnine, which wraps up at the end of September.
SARM president Ray Orb says strychnine is the best way to control pesky gophers, which can seriously damage crops and pasture.
Orb says there are strict and rigorous controls on the use of strychnine.
He is also hoping for an extension on the consultation period.
