As proceedings in Fredericton are set to get underway this Saturday to honour two of fallen members of the local police force, officers from police forces from across the country are in the New Brunswick capital to pay tribute to the fallen officers.
The two officers, Constables Robb Costello and Sara Burns, died in the line of duty last week after responding to shootings at an apartment complex in a residential neighbourhood.
Regina’s Chief of Police, Evan Bray, said they’ll have two officers in attendance Saturday.
He said it’s important for them to do what they can to be there for other police agencies across the country.
“It means a lot for us to be represented out there, to have our Regina Police Service shoulder flash out there in a sea of what’s going to be thousands of police officers,” he said. “But, really, I think a way for us to show that solidarity and the country and the support that we feel for Fredericton.”
Bray also noted this hits close to home for the three officers who will be attending the funeral, as a number of them knew the officers.
