Regina police say they are informing the Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner about an accidental privacy breach on the weekend.
An e-mail was issued Sunday afternoon to those who would normally receive press releases from the department. That e-mail had a watch commander’s log attached to it with confidential and personal information on cases being investigated being seen by those who opened the attachment. The e-mail was recalled several hours later.
A follow-up e-mail to those receiving the original one contained a request to delete the e-mail and the attachment.
In a statement, Regina police spokesperson Elizabeth Popowich says they are obligated to report the breach and work with the commission to “mitgigate the effects of our error and accept suggestions to prevent such an error in the future.”
