A “tax revolt” is on the way in the Rural Municipality of McKillop number 220
That’s according to Steve Wolos, chairman of the Hamlet of Alta-Vista.
He said a rate payers association has been working to find out where millions spent by the RM has gone.
“There has to be a tax revolt because everyone is fed up. It’s not a five per cent increase, this is an over 100 per cent increase. It’s assessed on values that are not even real.”
McKillop 220’s council recently passed a resolution to hike the 2018 municipal tax levy to 176 percent from the 2018 collection.
Wolos said it’s obvious there’s been no accountability for the expenses they’ve accrued.
“The reeve himself had no idea that they even knew they had a $480,000 deficit. He also didn’t know that when they were doing this year’s budget.”
Wolos said he doesn’t think he’s ever experienced a tax increase anywhere that high.
