Wascana Country Club is ready for the CP Women’s Open.
The tournament, which features the top female golfers on the planet, kicked off Monday.
Course superintendent Chad Fawcett said after a difficult winter, they had a lot of work to do.
“They sodded upwards of 150,000 square feet of fairway sod, rough sod,” he said.
Furthermore, Fawcett said with the winter being what it was, they just couldn’t afford to chance it with seeding, so they skipped that part.
“All of our bunkers were redone this year with new sand a new style of bunker we put in,” he said. “So, that was one of the big projects we had to finish up.”
Now, with the world’s best female golfers on the planet playing his course, and having their handiwork shown to those across Canada and the world, Fawcett said he feels a sense of pride.
“I know my crew has been looking forward to this day and this week and I know they’re all very proud of what they’ve done here,” he said. “We’re just going to enjoy it now that it’s here.”
