The University of Regina’s College West Building is good to go.
The housing building has the ability to accommodate 274 students.$38.3 million was spent in renovating the building, including $1.5 million in funding from the Government of Saskatchewan.
Some of the renovations include accessible bedrooms, LED lighting, modern apartments and several communal areas for the promotion of interaction with neighbours, friends and other students.
Bettina Welsh, Director of Student Affairs, said the facility is a wonderful place to learn it.
“Trying to achieve those academic goals that they have,” she said. “And, just do it a nice, beautifully designed space.”
One of the important things, Welsh said, was accessibility.
“It’s important to society that everyone feels included and everyone has the same access to services,” she noted.
One of those 274 people who are taking up residence in the College West Building is James Hsieh, who called the space a very home like one.
“When you go home, you don’t feel stress,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about anything.”
