The John A. MacDonald statue in Victoria Park has been vandalized again.
The hands of the first Prime Minister of Canada has been sprayed with red paint.
The last time it was vandalized was back in February, then again in 2012.
Controversy regarding statues of MacDonald was re-ignited when a statue of him was removed in Victoria.
This vandalism of the statue follows shortly after Montreal’s John A. MacDonald statue was vandalized.
Mayor Michael Fougere has commented on this matter as well, saying it’s important to learn from the past.
Fougere suggested we instead put a plaque showing the what John A. MacDonald did as a positive and as a negative for Canada.
