The Stanley Cup will be making a stop in Humboldt Friday.
Former Regina Pat and current Washington Capitals forward Chandler Stephenson is following through with a promise he made moments after the Caps won the cup by spending his day in Humboldt.
Mayor Rob Muench said over five months after the bus crash that killed 16 members of the team and left 13 others injured, the community is starting to find a new normal.
“We’ve had a couple of events in our community, our summer sizzler, and our streetfest here last weekend, so that’s helped get people into a little bit of a normal life again.”
Muench said many people in the community are looking forward to it.
“It was awfully nice for Chandler (Stephenson) to do that for us, and for the NHL and the NHLPA to get together and put this event on for our community,” Muench said. “I think especially the kids are going to be looking forward to it.”
Friday also marks the start of Broncos training camp, which will run over the weekend at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
