If it wasn’t for Brooke Henderson’s older sister Brittany, Brooke might not be one of the world’s best golfers.
It was Brittany who got Brooke into golf and when Henderson’s final putt went down Sunday afternoon at the Wascana to give her the CP Canadian Women’s Open title, it was Brittany who was the first to congratulate her as she serves as her caddy.
The older Henderson, who is 24, says she tries to be a calming influence to her sister as she goes from tournament-to-tournament.
“I try to be and I think I help quite a bit.” Henderson proclaimed. “I just try to keep her calm with everything and tell her to stick with the basics and stay focused right through to the last hole.”
For Brittany, the win for her sister was just as satisfying to her.
“This is amazing!!” Henderson said. “I was trying to hold into tears before that last putt. It was an amazing experience. I don’t know what else to say.”
Henderson says having seen her sister play in many events, the one thing that impresses her the most about Brooke is her mental toughness and courage—something that was on display this past week at the Wascana.
