Rural Municipalities in Saskatchewan are opposed to moving the 2020 fall municipal elections.
The provincial government is suggesting moving October 2020 municipal elections to the next year in October to avoid conflict with the provincial election set for early November 2020.
SARM president Ray Orb says a survey found rural councillors do not want to extend their term an extra year.
He says 65 percent of rural municipalities are opposed to any change in the date of the municipal election.
Orb says he doesn’t see much conflict between a municipal election and provincial campaigning.
The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association is also opposed to extending municipal terms.
