About 60,000 items are for sale at the Big Book Sale taking place at the Tartan Curling Club.
Items including books, puzzles, games, vinyl records, CD’s and DVD’s are being sold to raise money for the Lifelong Learning Centre.
Co-chair Ann Bishop said those who donate their used books and other items often enjoy the experience themselves.
“Most of the people that donate to the sale come and buy books as well, so they see what we’ve done with their books and really appreciate it,” Bishop said. “Following the sale, we also have quite a lengthy list of charities and organizations that take leftover books, so they know their books are going to a good home.”
Bishop said with the Tartan closing their doors for good soon, there`s a bit of uncertainty looking ahead.
“The plan is we will have to move, but we haven’t made any strong decisions yet,” Bishop said. “We’re looking into other venues in the city, hopefully in the central area so that people can come without cars, they could just walk to the place, that sort of thing.”
The book sale runs 11 AM until 8 PM Thursday and Friday, and 11 AM until 5 PM on Saturday.
