The final day of August is upon us, the kids will be heading back to school soon, and only about 21 days remain until the first official day of fall. It’s understandable why some people tend to get a little depressed that summer is into it’s final weeks and that those hot summer nights are becoming increasingly rare. For me, I love this time of year because the temperatures are just perfect, the leaves are beautiful, no mosquitoes, and the smell of an autumn morning simply cannot be replicated. Enjoy this time of year as much as you can because winter is supposed to be tough on us this year.
According to the Old Farmers Almanac, Canada will be experiencing a long and very cold winter from the Maritimes to Alberta. Their forecast indicates British Columbia will experience a typical winter. However, on the prairies a “teeth chattering” cold winter is predicted with average snowfall amounts. This doesn’t sound like fun at all! The Almanac says it won’t be easy to escape the cold either because the cold weather is expected to blanket most of North America including down into Texas and Florida where temps are expected to be much colder than normal.
Despite their 80 to 85 per cent accuracy, let’s all collectively hope the Old Farmers Almanac will get it wrong this year! Somebody asked me the other day which I prefer, very cold weather or very hot weather. I much prefer very cold because one can always put more clothes on if need be or escape into a warm house or shop to warm up. One can’t really take to many clothes off in summer to stay cool when it’s hot. If you take too many clothes off then it gets a little awkward, what with the nudity, police charges, and awkward public spectacle and all!
So enjoy these warm temperatures while you can and maybe ask for some new long underwear this Christmas season. Happy Friday!
