The cost of baggage is on the rise in two of Canada’s major airlines.
Air Canada and WestJet both increased a single checked bag to $30 and a second checked bag to $50.
Rhonda Smith is the Vice-President of Retail Operations for CAA Travel. She says this change won’t stop travellers from traveling.
“I think they’re used to a lot of changes by the airlines so it hasn’t really effected the amount of travellers,” Smith said. “But it is had some impact that travellers are choosing to manage their trip as they go away now.”
Smith said you should keep some helpful tips in mind if flying
“As much as possible, when families are traveling together, pack what you can in one bag,” Smith said. “Just reducing the number of bags will be cost-effective for families that are travelling, and always keep an eye on the types of fares that you’re purchasing.”
Smith adds some travel packages include checked bags in the price, while some do not.
