While she has held the role for about six months already, Brenda Lucki is now officially the new commissioner of the RCMP.
A special ceremony was held Thursday night at RCMP depot to mark the occasion as former commissioner Bob Paulsen passed responsibility onto Lucki.
Commissioner Lucki said it’s been a great six months on the job so far.
“Everybody, all sides of government have been super supportive, my team have been super supportive, and everybody is excited about the years ahead when we start planning for our road to 150.”
Commissioner Lucki said as cadets and members walked passed her during the ceremony, she took the time to thank them for what they do.
“There’s so much good in the RCMP, and everyday, so much good happens,” Lucki said. “I have been criticized in the past for saying ‘we’re not broken,’ and I say that because people come to work and they want to do good, and I want those people that are marching to feel good about what they do because I feel good about what I do.”
Commissioner Lucki adds her main focus on the job will be improving relations with Indigenous people as well as focusing on harassment within the RCMP and preventing it further.
