The President of the Saskatchewan Medical Association is connecting with the organizations members.
Dr. Siva Karunakaran’s province wide tour brought him to Regina Wednesday night to speak with physicians.
“We go out to the members and speak to them about the areas of concern we have identified and we are working on,” he said. “Also, we like to listen from the members to see what kind of things they have on their mind.”
Amongst the things on members minds has been physician health.
“Members have identified themselves as at risk of burnout,” said Karunakaran. “This was borne out of a survey we did about two years ago.”
Other provincial medical associations have also identified physician health and wellness as a concern, he also said.
Another issue is cannabis legalization.
Legalization for recreational cannabis across Canada is scheduled for October 17th and Karunakaran said many of the province’s family doctors are concerned.
“There are people worried there might be overuse and overflow to emergency room as a risk that may be presenting themselves.”
