Yesterday’s doctor appointment worked out just as I predicted it would. It never changes. I got there 5 minutes early, spent five minutes with my doctor, and in between, spent nearly an hour in the waiting room playing with my cell phone. Thank God for the cell phone and Wi-Fi, the best combination since bread and butter.
After I got home I thought I’d take advantage of the nice dry weather and mow the lawn. Before mowing I grabbed a couple of plastic bags and went to work picking up all of the deposits Max had left on the lawn over the course of the last few days. While I was standing in the yard I saw a Blue Jay land on the top of our fence. I had never seen one before that wasn’t stitched on the crest of a baseball cap! Wow. What a beautiful bird!
It must have stayed perched on the fence for a good half minute and I just stared at it the whole time. I was thinking about running into the house and grabbing my phone, but I knew he didn’t plan on sticking around to pose for a picture. I’m used to seeing robins and blackbirds come and go, but seeing a Blue Jay was an unexpected surprise.
After the bird flew off, it was back to the business at hand. I mowed the lawn while Max followed behind every step of the way.
With fall arriving Saturday night, I realized there won’t be many more times that I’ll get to enjoy the smell of freshly cut grass!
