Regina Police are warning residents about a recent string of credit card thefts.
Suspects are said to be typically targeting a lone elderly person in a public setting, using a pretense of dropped money as a way to engage the victim.
In one instance, a suspect approached someone putting groceries in their car, notifying them of money under the vehicle. It’s believed a second suspect took the victim’s wallet while distracted. Attempts to withdraw money and purchase items were made using the victim’s credit card before one of the suspects returned the wallet, saying it was dropped.
Another instance saw a suspect point out a dropped $20 bill near one victim. The person checked their wallet for missing money and the suspect took their wallet.
Police are asking residents to be aware of these attempts and ensure wallets and credit cards are secure after a suspicious encounter.
