The city of Regina will play host to a major baseball event next August.
It was announced Thursday that Regina will be the host venue for the 2019 Canada Cup Under 17 national championship with games being played at Optimist Park and Currie Field.
The Baseball Canada Cup serves several purposes: to scout and select players for the National Junior team, to evaluate coaches and identify potential Junior and Senior team coaches, and to evaluate umpires. College, amateur and professional scouts will have the opportunity to
evaluate the next generation of elite Canadian baseball talent.
Two players to have participated in this event in the past include North Battleford’s Andrew Albers who has pitched for many major league clubs and current Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin.
The dates of the tournament are August 7-11.
