Yesterday on my way home from work I approached the intersection of Sask. Drive and Albert Street. There were a few cars in each lane, all waiting for the light to turn green. In one of the lanes there was another car waiting as well, but this car was about 3 car lengths behind the rest. I know you don’t want to pull up too close to the car in front of you, but this seemed to be a little drastic. As I pulled up beside the car I noticed a young lady behind the wheel glued to her cellphone and texting away. I guess I should have known.
I could blog about this every day because I see it numerous times, no matter where or when I’m driving. The distracted driving law has been in effect for a while now and it’s just getting worse. It certainly must be baffling for those who sit in a room and try to figure out what repercussions will be needed to finally make people stop texting and driving.
Firing squad? Life in prison? Humongous fines? Forced to watch endless episodes of Corner Gas?
Maybe I was a little to quick to dismiss the “bus cops” when they were riding around the city trying to clamp down on this problem.
Bring back the “bus cops!”
