It’s hard to believe but we’re coming up on the curling season already! The community of Whitewood, in southeast Saskatchewan, will be hosting the 2019 Provincial Men’s Tankard February 6th to 10th at their arena and organizers are already thinking and planning ahead for the event. A kick off barbecue will be held tonight (Sept 27) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the arena.
“With the event comes the need for volunteers and we’re looking for around 120 to 130 volunteers. We’ve had a lot of people come and ask how they can be involved and one way is to come to the rink (and) register,” explained event Chairperson Chad Kelly.

Those who sign up and volunteer will also receive event passes to the event. Kelly adds volunteers can also sign up on the SaskTel Tankard website. He says there are specific areas where volunteers can play key roles to ensure the success of the SaskTel Tankard in 2019.
“They all range from transportation to team services and admission, 50/50, security, there’s a call for bartenders, so there’s a lot of different areas that we can take people,” outlined Kelly.
Saskatchewan’s most recent Brier champion, Jim Wilson, will be in attendance at tonight’s barbecue and folks will be have the opportunity to buy tickets for the 2019 Tankard. The entertainment line up will also be announced.
“We’re thrilled about it. The committee is ecstatic and the town is starting to get really excited about it as well,” beamed Kelly. “We’re a small town but we’ve got a lot of hospitality and we’re ready to show the Saskatchewan curling world what we’re all about.”
